Get Involved

Thank you for your interest in volunteering in the Benton Harbor Area School District. Your willingness to serve the students and staff is greatly appreciated.

Volunteer

BHAS is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for students to learn. Volunteering with the Benton Harbor Area Schools creates a dynamic, diverse network of cause-driven neighbors dedicated to strengthening the foundations of education, youth and community.

Benton Harbor Area Schools require all of our volunteers to undergo an annual background check through the Michigan State Police. Background checks must be performed and approved before a person can volunteer in the district. In addition, it is a requirement that volunteers read the volunteer handbook so that they can become familiar with their roles and responsibilities as a volunteer.

How to Become a Volunteer

Volunteer applications are available at each school.

  1. Please contact the building's main office regarding volunteering opportunities in their building.

  2. Complete the volunteer application and provide a copy of your Driver’s License or State Identification Card to the school to conduct the required criminal background check.

Please allow a minimum of one week after the application is received for processing. You will be notified when screening is completed by email or phone. Volunteer applications and appointments are valid for a maximum of one year. After such time a new application will be required.

If you have questions about the status of your application, please contact our Student Support Services Coordinator at (269) 605-1046
