Tomorrow, Thursday, September 24, is an asynchronous (virtual) learning day for K–5 students at DEC, MLK, and FPE. Students will not report to school in person.
If you have any questions, please contact the main office at your child’s school. 🐯🧡
Every day gives our Tigers opportunities to connect with friends, learn from teachers, enjoy meals, build new skills, participate in activities, and have caring adults in their corner.
Missing just two days a month can add up to almost a month of school by the end of the year. That’s a lot of learning, memories, and connections missed.

On Thursday, September 24, K–5 students at Discovery Enrichment Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, and Fair Plain East Elementary will not report to school in person. Students will participate in virtual learning while teachers attend professional development for the district’s new curriculum.

Excused or unexcused, every missed day adds up. Students who miss 10% of the school year are considered chronically absent, which can make it harder to keep up in class.

📚 The First Day of School is Monday! 🐅
We’re excited to welcome our Tigers back for the 2026–2027 school year on Monday, August 31!
Please remember that the first day is a half day for all students. Middle and high school students will be dismissed at 11:00 AM, and elementary students will be dismissed at 12:00 PM.
Families, please plan accordingly for early dismissal and transportation. We’re looking forward to a great start to the new school year!

Due to an Air Quality Alert in Berrien County and extreme heat conditions, we are making temporary changes to Sun Meals for the safety of staff and participants.
Breakfast (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM) will be delivered to:
• Berrien Homes
• Benton Manor
• Benton Harbor Library
• Country View
• River Terrace
No meal service at the following outdoor sites:
• Ravines
• Union Park
• Pipestone Park
• Blossom Acres
